Thiruppavai, written by Kodhai Azhvar, embodies the siddhanta of bhakti. The thirty verses (pasuram) explain the ideals and philosophies of saranagathi (surrendering to the parabrahmam) in simple and easy to understand verses. These verses are sung everyday in temples and homes. It takes a special significance in the month of margazhi (dhanurmasya).

We believe that the power of reciting these slokas is enhanced, when the meaning of the verses is understood in the correct context. Here, we bring you the meaning of the verses, with additional details when required, to start one’s journey towards the goal of understanding the sloka. The sloka script is provided in Tamil, transliterated English, and transliterated Devanagari. The sloka script is also available in Tamil (tamil-padham priththadhu), where the pasuram has the distinct words separated, so the meaning of the verse is easily understandable. The meaning is available in English and Tamil.

Our sloka audio is designed to help the User in correct diction and pronunciation. The tune, with no instruments, makes the sloka recitation easier.
